Ho Chi Minh City Takes the Lead in Digital Transformation of Healthcare Sector, Aiming for a Smart, Transparent and Efficient System

Ho Chi Minh City is demonstrating its pioneering role in the national digital transformation, especially in the healthcare sector — an essential field closely linked to the quality of life and direct interests of the people.

Orientation for Developing a Smart Healthcare Ecosystem

In the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department aims to build a modern, smart healthcare system that serves people effectively, conveniently and transparently. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, from now until 2025, the industry will focus on completing the information technology infrastructure according to the standards of the Ministry of Information and Communications; building and effectively exploiting specialized databases, shared databases and ensuring connection and communication with the city’s data center. This will be the foundation

Successful Deployment of Electronic Medical Records at 100% of Hospitals

One of the important achievements is that Ho Chi Minh City has completed the deployment of electronic medical records at 100% of hospitals under the Department of Health. This is an important milestone to help digitize all medical examination and treatment data, completely eliminate paper records, and create a platform for connecting medical examination and treatment data in the city’s health system.

This not only helps patients save time and facilitate travel between hospitals, but also improves the efficiency of management and health care for people.

Strong Digitalization of Administrative Procedures

Along with electronic medical records, Ho Chi Minh City is also a pioneer in digitizing 100% of administrative procedures in the health sector. Services such as granting operating licenses to medical facilities, granting practice certificates to medical staff, issuing birth and death certificates, etc. are all implemented online, ensuring speed, publicity, transparency and minimizing inconvenience for people.

Building Synchronous IT Infrastructure, Data Interconnection

Following the city’s orientation, the health sector is gradually standardizing information technology infrastructure, ensuring data security and connectivity between hospitals, medical centers and the city’s management system. Currently, more than 170 public and private health facilities in Ho Chi Minh City have participated in the national health data management system, contributing to the formation of a synchronous health data ecosystem.

Data interconnection not only serves medical examination and treatment but also supports epidemiological surveillance, disease prevention and effective health policy planning.

Orientation for Developing a Smart Health Ecosystem

In the next phase, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector aims to continue developing a smart health ecosystem, in which people are the center of service. Medical examination and treatment activities, health management, drug dispensing, medical record management, etc. will be digitized and closely connected, aiming to improve service quality and ensure comprehensive health care for the people.

Conclusion

With the decisive participation of leaders at all levels and the initiative of medical facilities, Ho Chi Minh City is gradually affirming its leading position in the country in digital transformation of the health sector. When completed, the smart digital health system will not only improve health management and care capacity but also bring a modern and civilized medical service experience to the city’s people.
